Photos of Norfolk, Norwich, The Broads, Villages and Coast by Daniel Tink

First of all, a very warm welcome to Scenic Norfolk, this is my photographic showcase to everything beautiful about Norfolk. My name is Daniel Tink, I was born in Norwich in 1981. Since my childhood I have always had a keen interest in art, in particular drawing. I studied computing and IT throughout my teenage years, leading to courses at Norwich City College and Sheffield Hallam University.

Since 2001 I have worked as a web designer with a local firm called astutech. I guess it was inevitable that one day I would try photography and in 2005 I found my inspiration through my good friend and work colleague John Stutely. In was John's photos from a recent visit to Norway that inspired me to give it a go.

I began my photography with a slightly chucky 2 megapixel Kodak digital camera, it was perfect! It had nothing on todays camera's but at the time it did everything I wanted and was versatile enough for me to start experimenting. I recall trying all sorts of subject matter from landscapes to portraits and abstracts to close-up photography (or macrophotography as its called in the trade). Probably two years later I found myself wanting more, so I invested in a slightly more advanced camera somewhere between a compact and an SLR, this was a Fujifilm Finepix S5500 Zoom and had a whooping 4.3 megapixels with an incredible 10x zoom! I was in camera heaven!

It was with my Fuji that I found myself becoming addicted to macrophotography - in particular insects! Seeing these tiny creatures up close and personal was fascinating and was like venturing into a whole new world.

It was around 2008 that I decided to combine my photography with my web design skills and make the most of both skills. It was around the same time I had once again upgraded my camera, this time to a semi professional digital SLR (Nikon D80) and I found myself moving away from macro work to landscapes. I decided that it would be great if I could share my passion of photographing our beautiful county with anybody who took an interest and Scenic Norfolk was born.

Morston, Norfolk

My aim for Scenic Norfolk was not only to provide a showcase for my work but also to try and provide something to our county - I wanted to attract people to visit Norfolk and thought what better way to do this than show Norfolk through my pictures. That was three years ago now and I am thilled that Scenic Norfolk has grown to what it has become today attracting over 4000 visitors per month.

As well as selling signed prints to the general public, my website also serves the tourism industry and local businesses requiring photographs of Norfolk. Much of my work has appeared in local and national magazines, brochures and websites, including Norwich Lanes, The Golden Triangle area of Norwich, Fine City magazine, Salmon Calendars and Halsgrove books. More recently it was a pleasure to supply 'The International Colleagues School of English' based in Norwich with a selection of Norwich photographs for their new website: www.icsenglish.com.

Not only has my website grown but also my ambition to share my work with others. I now regulary display and sell my work to the general public and have also been very fortunate to be picked by national publisher Halsgrove to produce photgraphic books for Norwich and Norfolk. My first book 'The Spirit of Norwich' was a dream come true and was released May 2010. It has since been in Jarrolds Top 5 local book charts on several occasions topping at 2nd place which was beyond anything I could possibly have hoped for.

To be able to call myself a published photographer and author is wholly thanks to a kind local author named Stephen Browning. In early 2009 I was contacted by Stephen after he had found my website. Stephen had almost finished producing what was to be a brand new exciting hardback book on Norwich, titled 'Discover Norwich' but was short of a few fullpage sized photos of certain parts of Norwich. I happily offered my services as the chance to have my work featured in a published book was too good to miss. It was shortly after the release of 'Discover Norwich' that to my surprise I received an email from the publisher 'Halsgrove' telling how much they liked my photography and would I be interested in producing my own photographic tour of Norwich. A dream come true, I jumped at the chance and 'The Spirit of Norwich' was born.

It was also with great pride that my publisher had selected my work to appear in a gorgeous new Norfolk Address Book in collaboration with three top Norfolk photographers. Further to this I was then offered my own exclusive Pocket-sized Norfolk Address Book, released October 2010.

Evolving from the success of our Norwich books, myself and Stephen have found ourselves forming a unqiue publishing partnership. Stephens brilliant writing and my passion for photography have worked so well together that we now have books coming out of our ears, so to speak! We were privileged to be asked by our publisher to produce 'The Spirit of Norwich Cathedral' and have an exciting 2011 to look forward to with several publications forth coming including 'Discover Norfolk' and 'Norfolk Food Heroes'.

All of our books are available to purchase from all good local bookstores or online from Amazon: Discover Norwich, The Spirit of Norwich, The Spirit of Norwich Cathedral, Norfolk Address Book, Norfolk Pocket Address Book
